When you imagine commercial flooring, do you think it would look like this?
Probably not.
Commercial floors have a reputation for being chosen for one reason: they can take a beating.
And while durability absolutely matters, Queens of Floors doesn’t believe a floor has to look industrial, boring, or like an afterthought just because hundreds of people may walk across it.
This project for HANDY Inc. is proof.
HANDY is a South Florida nonprofit serving youth and families through programs designed to create opportunities, strengthen communities, and help young people build brighter futures.
That means this isn’t a showroom floor that gets admired more than it gets used.
This is a real community space. People gather here. Young people learn here. Programs happen here. Furniture moves. Shoes hit the floor. Life happens on it.
So the assignment wasn’t simply:
Make it look good.
It was:
Give this space a floor that can work as hard as the organization using it and make the transformation impossible to ignore.
And that transformation started long before the beautiful finished floor you see today.
You Wouldn’t Believe This Is the Same Floor
Here’s the thing about a beautiful commercial floor:
The part everybody sees at the end isn't necessarily the part that determines whether the project is successful.
What happens underneath it matters.
Before Queens of Floors could create the finished surface at HANDY, the existing flooring had to come up and the concrete underneath had to be prepared. And it wasn't exactly pretty. The exposed surface showed residue, markings and evidence of everything that had been there before.
This is where a professional commercial flooring transformation really begins.
Not with color.
Not with shine.
Not with the satisfying “after” photo everybody wants to post.
With preparation.
Think about it this way: you wouldn’t paint a damaged wall without dealing with what’s underneath first.
Your floor deserves the same attention.
Proper concrete surface preparation helps create the foundation the new flooring system needs. It’s one of those parts of a flooring project most people will never think about once the furniture is back in place but it can make all the difference.
Queens of Floors worked through that existing surface, preparing the concrete for what came next.

this happened. The old, worn surface became a seamless decorative floor that completely changed the room.

That’s why one of our favorite things about this project is actually the before photos.
Because when you put them next to the finished space, you understand just how much changed.
The transformation didn't begin when the finished flooring went down.
It began when we met the floor that was already there.

Projects like this one mean a little more.
HANDY Inc. serves young people and families throughout Broward County, creating spaces and programs centered around education, development, opportunity and community.
And Queens of Floors had the opportunity to leave its craftsmanship inside one of those spaces.
At the end of the day, we installed the surface underneath everyone's feet.
But what happens on top of that floor is what makes the project special.
Young people will walk across it.
Conversations will happen on it.
Programs will happen on it.
Memories will be made on it.
And there's something pretty cool about knowing our work gets to be a small part of everything that happens next.
